The Pierates Are Coming!

Hello and welcome to the first edition of the bARTo blog!

Here you will meet some brave (and not-so-brave) friends of mine. They are the triangular terrors you never knew you needed… THE PIERATES!

I can’t remember exactly when or even why I drew a sentient pie, but the fellow to your right was my first character. He didn’t look quite as rough and tough as he does now but then he has been in a few fights since then.

I was inspired to create him by finding a picture of the weirdest-looking pie I’ve ever seen; the Stargazy Pie (such a cool name, right?). I thought, well if I’m going to draw sentient pies, one of them has to have a fish’s head. And so Gideon Stargazy was born! Though after a few tweaks, he ended up losing his fish head and upgrading to a lobster instead. I was finding it hard to take his lips seriously.

And before you ask, no I do not know what a Stargazy Pie tastes like. I would love to know if anyone out there has tried it. Let me know!
